Camp WheezeAway and Young Teen Asthma Camp
at Camp Winnataska in 2008

Two Specialty Camps for Children with Asthma will be offered in 2008! Camp WheezeAway, for children ages 8-12, and the Young Teen Asthma Camp, for adolescents ages 13-16, will be held at Camp Winnataska the first week of June. The programs are offered at no charge to participants and are financially supported by grants, private donations and special event activities. Camp WheezeAway is a joint effort of the American Lung Association of Alabama and the Alabama Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. The Young Teen Asthma Camp is sponsored by donors and the Alabama Pulmonary Medicine Institute.

Applications for the 2008 sessions must be received by contact persons listed below by April 15, 2008. Applications include information from the parent and the child's health care provider.

Both programs are well established and include asthma education, optimal care for the condition by volunteer physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other professionals with expertise in asthma, 24 hours a day. Campers participate in regular camp activities including swimming, crafts, canoeing, hiking, nature, recreation, horseback riding and more.
